The findings in this article are consistent with many other papers indicating that the Nugent score is useful in diagnosing bacterial vaginosis, both in resource rich and poor settings. The first was published by Riduan Joesoef et al (Reproducibility of a scoring system for Gram stain diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis. Journal of Clinical Microbiology 1991;29:1730-31) to try to prevent prematurity with clindamycin treatment.
